Hello Renzo,
First of all, thank you for your work!
I have been using your library for several years for a project with a Wemos D1 R2, but I am having difficulties with version 4.1.1.
Regardless of the SMTP server used (smtp.free.fr, smtp.mailpro.com, etc.), I always get the same error, even with your example of sending an email.
Can you advise me?

Hi Jean,
You are right, I found an issue with memory usage for ESP8266, and I pushed a new 4.1.3 version.
For testing, you can download the library directly from GitHub and try it.
Give me feedback.
Thanks Renzo
Hello Renzo,
Version 4.1.3 works perfectly on Wemos D1 R2!
Thank you very much for your responsiveness!
Jean-Pierre
